Christmas shopping in Berlin

A visit to Berlin is an amazing experience any time of the year. However, during December the capital of Germany turns into a magical winter wonderland and becomes a particularly enjoyable city trip destination. The Christmas spirit can be felt everywhere throughout the city. The streets, store windows and malls are beautifully illuminated and cheerfully decorated which adds a romantic charm to the capital. Anyone who hasn’t completed Christmas shopping for this year or simply wants to get into the holiday spirit should certainly plan a city trip to Berlin. We have compiled a few insiders’ tips for the perfect Christmas shopping experience.

Kurfürstendamm

The glorious 3.5-kilometer long shopping Boulevard “Kurfürstendamm”, just around the corner of ELLINGTON Hotel, charms visitors from across the world with its magnificent light illuminations and colorful holiday decorations. Countless fashion stores, malls, restaurants and cafés seem to be competing for the most grandiose decorations and attracting shoppers with the right holiday offers for everyone’s needs. Those who are looking for a luxurious shopping experience should definitely pay a visit to the famous KaDeWe (mall of the west) on Tauentzienstraße. In addition to a carefully selected assortment of the world’s finest fashion, cosmetics and electronics brands shoppers will also find a marvelous range of decorative Christmas items and gifts. The world famous gourmet section on the fifth floor of KaDeWe attracts visitors with international specialty foods and beverages.

Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain and Berlin Mitte

For those who aren’t particularly fond of crowded malls and mainstream labels Berlin is just the place to be. In the popular “scene districts” Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain and Berlin Mitte you will find a variety of small independent stores that offer an assortment of unique fashion and gifts, far away from the large crowds of the city center.

Prenzlauer Berg is famous for it’s small fashion boutiques, trendy vintage stores and extravagant design items. Those looking for a unique Christmas gift are at the right place here. The “Erfinderladen” in Lychener Street is a popular store for fancy design objects and odd gifts. Here you will stumble upon anything from clever solutions for little household problems to very special decorative items – things you won’t find anywhere else.

In Friedrichshain you will see dozens of independent boutiques and small local fashion labels. The right address for the latest fashion items and cute accessories is “Pracht Mädchen” in the Wühlischstrasse. Here you will surely find the perfect gift for any fashionable woman or girl.

Die-hard fashion victims, who don’t purchase clothes “off the shelf”, should go to Berlin Mitte. In luxury boutiques such as the men’s apparel store “14 oz.”, located on the Neue Schönhauser Street you’ll find those hard to come by, straight off the runway items.

Even if you return back home empty handed after your shopping trip (which is really hard to imagine) the magnificent decorations, the sweet smell of mulled wine and roasted almonds and the magical Christmas spirit in Berlin are certainly worth the visit! If you want to warm up after a long day of Christmas shopping you should enjoy one of our delicious soups at Restaurant DUKE. Up until January 31st ELLINGTON Hotel is donating EUR 1.00 of each sold soup to the charity organization “Berliner Tafel”.
