Restaurant DUKE

We cook creative, modern dishes with regional products.

Traditional yet modern

Our head chef Florian Glauert cherishes traditional cooking, adores the simple things in life and lives a creative, modern lifestyle. He and his sous-chef Marco Müggenburg use all those attributes to create a type of “cuisine logique“. The aim is to create a compilation of exciting aromas, new horizons and traditional French haute cuisine. Glauert puts enormous value on high-quality, regional produce, which he brings together on the plate with great attention to detail, in a sophisticated yet uncomplicated way.

The hosts of the DUKE Restaurant are Anke Wellendorf and Hannes Hinz, whose suave manners combine the relaxed charm of the restaurant with the finely presented kitchen.

For those who want to be in complete privacy, we have a separate private dining room for twelve people which can be booked exclusively.

DUKE Bar & Lounge

Join us in the afternoon for coffee or in the evening for a fruity cocktail.

„It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that swing“

A fresh breeze blows through the venerable walls of the former “Ballhaus Femina”, a hotspot of the wild 1920s in Berlin, as the exterior facade in the style of the New Objectivity of the time reveals. In addition to the Ballhaus, the stately building also housed the Texas Bar and the largest “Tanztee” ballroom in Berlin in 1929, before bands of the Wehrmacht drove the swing-happy audience. In 1949, the artist’s room “Badewanne” (Bathtub) was built in the cellar, which quickly became one of the most significant jazz sites in Berlin, on their stage today’s namesake also performed: Duke Ellington. At the end of the 1970s, Rio Reiser, Nick Cave or David Bowie & Iggy Pop met in the “Dschungel” before the Berlin Financal Directorate sent the house to sleep with the sound of typewriters.

For sun worshippers, those who love fresh air or anybody else who just wants a quick time-out from the hustle and bustle of the big city. In the ELLINGTON Summer garden you can lie back and relax on a large and comfortable couch and from 11.30 am you can enjoy light summer dishes from the Restaurant DUKE as well as coffee and cake or cocktails.

In the summer months the ELLINGTON Summer garden provides the perfect backdrop for jazz concerts and events which you can find in our event calendar.

Wine vault

Around 300 wines are enclosed within steel doors weighing tons.

Former vault

Welcome money for visitors from East Germany was once stored in the hotel’s historical cellar. Today the 35 square metre wine vault can be found behind the former financial administration vault, which has been preserved in its original condition. Around 300 different wines from France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Austria are stored there and can be found on the Restaurant DUKE wine list. Special editions such as the Sassicaia 1976-2008 range, including the “Sassi 85” or the 1969 vintage Barbaresco Angelo Gaja can also be found.
